№ 01 · Review

« Ever since she got her book, Léna sleeps with the helmet we gave her for her birthday. She explained to us why the sky is dark even in full sunlight. I looked it up — she was right. »

№ 02 · Our promise

Becoming an astronaut in a book is serious business. Our creative team works to a strict charter: we tell the story of real space — silence, weightlessness, vastness — not Star Wars.

No threatening aliens, no space battles, no lasers. Just a real profession, a real scientific adventure, told with care at a child's level.

, on every My First Journey into Space.

What we do

  • An emotional arc from doubt to confidence in the face of a big moment
  • A contemplative scene of Earth seen through the porthole
  • 3 real science facts woven into the story — never delivered as a lesson
  • The spacesuit fitted to the child's size, clear visor showing their face
  • Harsh, direct sunlight with no atmosphere — sculpting silhouettes in sharp relief

What we won't do

  • Menacing aliens or threatening extraterrestrial creatures
  • Space battles, laser fights, enemy warships
  • Any scene of planetary destruction or cosmic catastrophe
  • Fantasy outfits like superhero costumes, capes, or masks
  • The hero single-handedly saving the universe like a lone ace pilot

№ 02b · The book up close

Some children stare at the night sky and go quiet for a long time. This book takes them to see Earth from above — at a child's eye level, in the vast calm of real space.

Some children look up at the stars at night and wonder what lies beyond. Others dream of going there. This personalized astronaut book for kids is for them — and for those who didn't yet know they were dreaming of it.

In My First Journey into Space, your child doesn't read a story about an astronaut. They become one. Their name is woven into every page, their face is illustrated from the photo you send us, and the white suit with orange stripes is fitted to their size — slightly roomy at the shoulders, clear visor showing their eyes, boots planted firmly on the capsule floor.

Our creative team works to a strict editorial charter: we tell the story of real space. No threatening aliens, no laser battles, no enemy ships. Just a countdown ticking down, vibrations through the capsule walls, and then that moment nobody forgets — the first time you look through the porthole and see Earth, small and blue, hanging in the dark like a glass marble.

The emotional arc moves from doubt to confidence. When the moment comes to put on the helmet, the hero hesitates: this is big, this is serious, this is real. Nobody pushes them — they decide to move forward. That's the story we want to tell: not the fearless super-pilot, but the child who is afraid and goes anyway.

This personalized space book for kids is also a window onto real physical phenomena, told at a child's level, never as a lesson:

  • Why you float in the space station — you're falling continuously around Earth, like an elevator that never stops going down.
  • Why space is completely silent — sound needs air to travel, and up there, there is none.
  • Why the sky stays black even in bright sunlight — without an atmosphere to scatter blue light, you see the sun and the stars at the same time.

Kids love bringing these out at school the next day.

The book comes in three versions tailored to your child: ages 3–5 for the immediate wonder of rockets and stars, ages 6–8 for the scientific adventure and quiet courage, ages 9+ to absorb the real facts about weightlessness and the void of space. A4 landscape format (29.7 × 21 cm), hardcover on all three editions, 28 or 48 pages depending on the story.

Express delivery in 7 days to mainland addresses (10–15 business days on standard shipping), or a PDF version in 24 hours if it's a last-minute gift. A question about the mission, the format, or a detail you'd like adjusted? Write to hello@realbigstories.com — we reply quickly.

Giving My First Journey into Space means giving a child the feeling of having seen Earth from above. A book you keep for a long time, because you never forget your first time in orbit.

№ 04 · Stories waiting to be told

Visual preview of the The First Launch archetype

The countdown begins. The capsule shakes. Then silence falls — they're no longer on Earth. The child opens their eyes and looks through the porthole.

  1. At the space centre, the child pulls on the suit. The helmet is heavy, the boots slip against the metal.
  2. Countdown. The capsule shudders, pressing them back into the seat. Then — nothing.
  3. They float. Through the porthole: Earth. Blue. Small. Nobody says a word. They simply press their hand against the glass.

For every book, our creative team selects the arc that best captures your duo — the one you'll recognise the moment you read it together.

№ 05 · FAQs

The most common questions about My First Journey into Space — answered honestly, with nothing left out.

Are the space science facts in the book actually accurate?

Yes — the three facts woven into the story (why you float in the space station, why space is silent, why the sky stays black in full sunlight) are explained at a child's level while staying true to real physical phenomena. The goal isn't to write a science textbook, but to plant small seeds of curiosity that hold up to scrutiny. If you spot any wording that feels shaky, write to us at hello@realbigstories.com — we'll fix it.

Are there aliens or space battles in the book?

No — that's a firm commitment in our editorial charter. No threatening extraterrestrials, no lasers, no enemy ships, no explosions. We stay true to the real experience of an astronaut: launch, weightlessness, spacewalk, and the awe of seeing Earth through the porthole. If your child is looking for a Star Wars-style space opera, this isn't the book for them — and we're fine with that.

My child doesn't particularly want to be an astronaut — will they still enjoy it?

Very likely yes. Many children love this book for the sense of calm and wonder it captures, not because they're mapping out a career. The moment the hero looks down at Earth from orbit moves children who dream of all kinds of things. If space truly doesn't spark anything for your child, browse our other adventure themes — each one is built on the same model of wonder told at a child's level.

What are the delivery times?

Our express delivery takes 7 days within mainland UK — the safe option if you need the book by a specific date. Standard delivery takes 10 to 15 working days when there's no rush. In a real hurry? The digital version (PDF) is ready within 24 hours of your order being confirmed. For international deliveries, allow extra time depending on the destination. You'll receive a tracking number by email as soon as your order ships. Any questions? Drop us a line at hello@realbigstories.com.

What size is the book, and how many pages does it have?

The book is A4 landscape format (29.7 × 21 cm when closed) — perfect for reading together side by side or laying flat on a table. The standard version has 10 illustrated chapters, plus an introduction and conclusion, coming to around 28 pages in total. The long version is nearly twice that, with 20 chapters and roughly 48 pages. Each chapter features a full-page illustration paired with text tailored to your child's age.

What's the print and paper quality like?

Printed on thick, premium matte paper. The hardcover is sturdy and the same high quality across all age ranges. The binding is sewn and glued to last — this is a book built to be read a hundred times, not to gather dust at the back of a drawer.

Can I make changes after placing my order?

Yes — as long as your book hasn't gone to print yet, which is usually within the first few hours after ordering. Get in touch as quickly as possible at hello@realbigstories.com with your order number and the change you need (a misspelled name, a photo to swap, a character to adjust). Once printing has started, we're unable to make any further changes.

What if I'm not happy with the result?

If something isn't right — a printing defect, a quality issue, or an illustration that doesn't look like your child — contact us as soon as possible after receiving your order at hello@realbigstories.com. We'll either reprint or give you a full refund, no questions asked. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, we make it right.

Are my photos and personal data safe?

Yes — your photos are only used to create the book. They're never shared, never used for anything else, and they're deleted from our servers on request. All our providers (payment, hosting, printing) are GDPR compliant.

How much can I personalize the book?

Far beyond just the name. Your child's face is illustrated from your photos, and appears on every page. You also choose the story world, the plot, the characters around them (family, friends, pet) and the little details of appearance. The book stays fully editable until you approve the preview: you read through the text, request any changes, and printing only starts once you're happy.
