The character doesn't look enough like the photo

Understand the limits of likeness and choose the right photos before you order.

An illustration, not an exact copy of the photo

We understand how much it matters to you to recognize your child or a loved one. Our illustrations are inspired by your photos, but they remain drawings. Our technology can sometimes struggle to capture certain faces, even from a good photo. We cannot guarantee an exact likeness, nor a closer one if we try again.

If the photo was good quality

If the face was sharp, well lit and close enough, a likeness that seems insufficient to you does not qualify for a touch-up. We do not redo faces to try to bring them closer to the photo.

If the photo was hard to work with

A blurry, pixelated, dark or distant photo, or one where the face is hidden, can explain a weak likeness. If the person is wearing sunglasses or a cap in the photo, the illustrated character may keep them: these accessories hide the eyes or hair, so we can't faithfully recreate the hidden details. A new photo can't replace the characters in a book that has already been created. Updating their appearance would mean recreating the book's illustrations, then redoing and checking its layout. We don't offer this, including after delivery.

Why this limit?

Each book brings together a story, several characters and many illustrations. Redoing one character means significant work across the whole book. We receive a lot of touch-up requests, sometimes after delivery. To keep prices accessible, we focus our team's time on major errors rather than on redoing likenesses or personal preferences.

Small differences may remain from one image to the next. A personalized illustration cannot be perfect in every detail. The preview offered before purchase helps you judge the style and how the characters are portrayed. The full book is then yours to review before approving it for printing.

For your next creation

Choose a recent, sharp, bright photo where the face is seen from the front or slightly to the side, with no filter or sunglasses. The face should fill a good part of the photo. Check the preview before you order.

A clearly distorted image, such as a character with an extra limb, is a major visual error: see the article on possible corrections. A likeness that you simply find too weak is a different case and does not qualify for a change.
